Back when he was child Michael Greger saw his grandmother’s health decline due to heart disease. In fact, it was so bad, the surgeons ran out of plumbing for bypasses, and told her to go home and prepare for the worst.
Fortunately, she heard about Dr. Nathan Pritikin, who pioneered the link between diet and disease back in the 1960’s. To cut a long story short, grandma went there in a wheel chair, and two weeks later was walking ten miles a day. Happily grandma went on to live 20 extra bonus years of good health.
This inspired the young Michael. He decided to become a doctor, to help people like grandma. Young Michael made two discoveries when he went to medical school
- Doctors receive little or no training in nutrition and the link between diet and disease. As a result they most often ignore the link, or are easily misled by vested interests to promote harmful dietary advice.
- Despite the above, there is a mass of solid research which exposes the links between diet and disease. But unfortunately this evidence is buried in medical journals and rarely sees the light of day, as it usually contradicts the orthodoxy promoted by the food industries.
Michael Gregar made it his life mission to “research the research” and to present the findings in a clear and understandable way. As he says “I read hundreds of journals and research papers, so you don’t have to…”
Michael’s site is nutritionfacts.org, and he has info on every possible diet and health topic. Everything is presented via short videos, so its really easy to take in. It is my go-to site for background information and facts. I highly recommend it.
In fact, I like it so much that I now help out there as a moderator to answer queries and direct people to more information. So if you go there you will get help from me or another moderator if needed.
Let me know how you like it.
